Step 1 Pre-listening ·Ask students to think about the questions: 1)What historic places have you been to? 2)Can you mention some of the places of interest there? 3)What were your feelings when you traveled there? ·Draw a conclusion from what students have talked about: when we talk about a visit to a historic tourist destination, we always share our feelings upon discovering new things. ·Show some pictures of places of interest in Pingyao and ask students to name them. 新人教高一英语教案

Step 2 Listening 1.Listening for gist ·Ask students to listen to a conversation about Pingyao between Paul and a receptionist and tick the places mentioned in Activity 1 on page 43. ·Check the answers. 2. Listening for specific information ·Play the recording again and ask students to pay attention to the speakers' feelings while listening and finish Activity 2 on page 43. ·Check their answers. Step 3 Learning expressions ·Explain the meanings and uses of the expressions in Activity 2 on page 43. had expected ★ Ask students to decide whether the speaker's hope is fulfilled or not. ★ Explain that the following structures are used to express an unfulfilled intention or plan: Had expected/intended/supposed/thought/wanted... like ★ Ask students to express their feelings using an analogy. I had no idea ... / I can't believe ... ★Ask students to translate the sentences. ★Ask students to make up a short conversation using:I had no idea.../ I can't believe ... ★Make a list of the adjectives used to describe feelings in a whole class setting. Step 4 Talking 1.Role-play the conversation 3
·Pair students to role-play the conversation in Activity 3 on page 43. ·Encourage students to continue the conversation about Pingyao using the expressions in the box.
