A
About 10 years ago my daughter was about 2500 kilometers from Newcastle, and rang me one day crying because of an emotional problem she was facing. She was about 20, and in a town known as Ayrlie Beach in Northern Queensland. I asked her what it was that she needed most in that moment, and she replied that she needed support, and my arms around her would be the best thing that she could hope for! Because I couldn't do that in that exact moment, I asked her to describe her surroundings to me (I have absolutely no idea 'why', at the time), and said that if she hadn't heard from me in about 30 minutes, she could ring me back. I asked her to stay exactly where she was.
After hanging up the phone, I just sat for a few seconds. After only a very short time a phone number jumped into my head. I rang the number and it was a woman who had bought a house from me about 18 months previously, when I was working in Real Estate. My exact words to her were these, \"Oh, it's you Liz, I have no idea why I'm calling you in particular, but my daughter is in trouble in Ayrlie Beach, and I just got the thought to ring you and tell you that. Have you any idea why?\" \"It could be because my son lives there,\" says Liz.
\"Oh really, that's got to be it,\" I said. \"Do you mind giving me his phone number, Liz?\"
\"Of course not, and I can only hope that he can be of some help!\"
实用文档
I rang straight away (only about 5 minutes have passed since telling my daughter that somehow I'd get her help). Fortunately, he answered immediately, and I told him the story of who I was, and why I'd rung.
I gave him the description of my daughter; where she was standing; and that she needed emotional support if he could find it in his heart to help out so unexpectedly like this. \"Oh yes, I can see her,\" he said...\"she's right across the street from where I'm standing!\" He walked across the street and told my daughter that her Dad had sent him!
Imagine that...she almost fainted: only about 10 minutes had passed since she had rung me! I believe that she said something like this, \"Wow, Dad's getting pretty good at this stuff!\".
That's intuition(直觉)at it's best!

The trip to the United Stated opened my eyes to the fact that there are a lot of similarities as well as differences between American youth and French youth.
The first difference is in appearance. Going around in the U.S., I found that American youth do not really care about their appearance. In the morning, they choose something in their closet and wear it with another thing, often of different colors and styles, without wondering whether their choices make them look strange. The reason behind this is that they don’t care what people look like, but are just interested in their ideas. I think it’s great, but it also causes problems. Since they
实用文档
don’t care about their appearance, they don’t really care about their weight. Often they get fat without realizing it.
There are differences in relationships too. When the American youth fall in love, they don’t really think of the future. Also, there are differences in the rules concerning behavior that is allowed. In some respects, the French are more accepting. For example, in America it is generally unacceptable to make physical display of love. Lovers, in theory, can’t kiss or hold each other everywhere they want. People think that not showing love in public places is a way to respect others. On the contrary, the French youth can do almost everything they want.
With regard to other types of relationships, there are also big differences. Americans act differently from French people in front of unknown people. When an American girl, for example, arrives in front of people she has never met before, she will talk with them, trying to create a kind of bond between her and this new circle of people. The French girls will just think about rather than really do this kind of thing because they are too shy and lacking in self-confidence.
To finish, I noticed that in American classes, when pupils want to say or ask something, they just do it. In general, they don’t really care how the others will judge them. In France, it’s not the same case. If somebody wants to ask something, he/she will think about it before speaking up. I appreciate the freedom in Americans’ behavior, ideas, and ways of expressing themselves. 41. American young people _______.
A. are just interested in people’s clothes B. care more about their weight

C. show more interest in people’s ideas D. are more concerned about appearance 42. When American youth fall in love with each other, they _________. A. will not hold each other
B. will always think about their future D. will rarely display their love in public
C. will kiss wherever they like
43. When meeting with strangers, American girls will not _______. A. behave in a way similar to French girls B. try to establish a type of relationship with them C. have faith in themselves
D. start to create a conversation
44. It can be inferred from the passage that French youth may think more about ______.
A. their public reputation C. their physical displays
B. their relationship’s future D. their lover’s ideas
45. The passage is mainly about the______ between American youth and French youth. A. similarities
B. friendship
D. differences C
It's good to make mistake, and here is why.
First of all, mistakes are a clear sign that you are trying new things. It's always good to try new things because when you are trying new things you are growing. If you never try anything new, how can you improve? How can you expand? How can you innovate? The simple answer is \"You can't\". Look around you. With very few
C. differences and the similarities
实用文档
exceptions, either everything you see in your physical world or every single detail of every single thing is the result of someone trying something new.
Another good thing about mistakes is this: when you are making mistakes, you are learning. Consider this: Edison failed 10000 times before he perfected the light bulb. when asked how it felt to fail that many times, he remarked that he hadn't failed 10000 times, but rather had learned 10000 things that didn't work. Finally, when you make a mistake you are much closer to success. Why?
Because when all is said and done, you will have tried some finite number of things before you succeeded, Every time you made a mistake you eliminated one of those things and are one step closer.
But this all doesn't mean that you should move ahead, ignoring the consequences of a mistake. Quite the contrary, when you try something new you have to be willing to set some reasonable limits so that in the event that it doesn't work out the way you want it to, you will be in a position to try again.
We all have limited resources in the form of time and money so don't blow them all on one approach to a problem. Realize that it probably won't be perfect the first time and allocate these resources appropriately so you can learn, modify, and try it again. Only by embracing and using your mistakes in this way can you make significant advances in your business and your career.
There is an old principle that goes, \"If you're not making mistakes, you're not trying hard enough.\"
So go forth and make mistakes. And learn. And grow. And prosper.

Drownings, bicycle injuries, falls, and pedestrian accidents are the most mon causes of childhood injury or death. Here’s what you need to know to avoid tragedy: ◆ Drowning: Each year, thousands of children die from drowning, with two-thirds of
accidents occurring in the summer. To protect kids, parents should install multiple layers of protective devices, with each layer offering another opportunity to avoid a tragedy. Fences, door alarms, pool covers are all somewhat effective individually, but their effectiveness is increased dramatically when used in bination with one another. ◆ Falls: Falls from heights kill 140 children under the age of 15 each year in the United
States, and seriously injure three million more, making falls the leading cause of non-deadly injury for this age group. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), falls are especially a problem for children living in multi-story housing during the summer months, when windows are open and children are more likely to be playing on fire escapes, roofs and balconies. To keep kids safe, AAP remends window guards be installed on second story and higher windows. When choosing guards, install those that are operable in the event of emergencies like a house fire. Using childproof gates can prevent falls down stairways. Nevertheless, no gate can replace parental supervision (监督)
◆ Bikes: Bike accidents kill over 1,500 children aged 14 and under each year. Of these

deaths, more than half occurred during the summer. According to the AAP, head injuries from cycling are the most mon cause of disability. A recent study in Seattle, Washington showed that helmets reduced the risk of head injury by 85 percent and brain injury by 88 percent. When purchasing a bike helmet, parents are urged to make sure it meets the bicycle helmet safety standards of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
◆ Pedestrian: Over 6,000 kids aged 14 and under die every year as a result of an
unintentional pedestrian-related injury. As a general rule, kids under 10 should not be crossing the street alone. Young children lack the ability to judge the speed and the distance of oning traffic. Parents need be models and teach proper pedestrian behavior. Cross at the corner and when you do cross, continue to look both ways because there are likely to be more cars turning into your path or people speeding. Obey all the traffic signals.
51. What is the point of the article?
A. To introduce factors that cause risks for children.
B. To give tips on what to do to prevent accidents about children. C. To explain why summer is a risky time for kids. D. To describe what to do to prevent accidents at home.
52. To protect kids against falls, families living in multi-story housing should _________ according to the AAP.
A. install window guards on second story and higher windows B. never leave windows open when children are left alone at home

B. not take anyone in the back seat C. wear a proper helmet
D. not ride on the streets under the age of 14 54. What can be concluded from the article?
A. Bicycles cause the most non-delay injuries for children in the US each year B. Pedestrian accidents happen much more frequently than drownings in the US each year
C. A bination of fences, door alarms and pool covers can greatly reduce the risks of drowning.
D. Children should never be allowed to cross the street on their own.

Do you blank out or feel so nervous in exams that you have trouble writing answers to questions that you knew just last night? If so, you likely have a case of test anxiety.
But, don't be afraid. By recognizing the problem, you are taking the first step towards overing it.
Believe it or not, a touch of nervousness can sharpen your mind, allowing you to perform more quickly. This is because under stress, the body releases the hormone adrenaline (肾上腺素), which prepares it for something important that will happen. However, too much anxiety can result in sleeplessness, loss of appetite before tests, and poor performance. Some people might feel hot and tired. With great anger they often shout or plain for no reason.
If you worry a lot or are a perfectionist, you are more likely to have trouble with test anxiety. Those who have prepared poorly for a test or have had negative experiences taking tests may also experience test anxiety.
When you feel a storm of anxiety ing on, stop what you're doing and make your mind a blank. If possible, actually tell yourself to 'STOP!' This will get your mind off the stress.
Then think of being at a place of fort and let your body relax. As you continue the test, find questions you know the answers to and answer them first. This will help restore your confidence.
Important of all, talk to yourself using positive language. Make it a habit to replace each negative thought with a logical reason. For example: \"I've studied hard and I
实用文档
know the material, so I'm ready to do the best I can.\"
Another thing you can do is to learn to accept mistakes. In fact, they can be valuable learning opportunities.
Last but not least, start test preparation early - three to five days ahead of the quiz or test. After all, good study habits and skills - for example, time management and note-taking - will give you the feeling that you are in control.
56. What is probably the best title of the passage? ( No more than 10 words )
57. Who will more easily suffer from test anxiety according to the passage? ( No more than 10 words)
58. What does the underlined word “hot” in Paragraph3 probably mean? (No more than 3 words)
59. What makes you feel that you are in control of the test in the last paragraph? (No more than 7 words)
60.Do you think that a touch of anxiety can have a positive effect? And why? (No more than 20 words)
