摘要：Disclosed is an apparatus for controlling a position of an electromagneticallyoperated engine valve for an internal combustion engine. During the engine stop, acontroller determines whether a cranking operation failure causes the engine stop (a

step S) or an engine stall causes the engine stop (a step S). In a case where an ignitionswitch is turned to ON with the engine stop or the ignition switch is turned to OFF withthe engine stop due to the failure in the cranking operation, the engine valve (either anintake valve or exhaust valve) is held at a valve open position or a valve closure positionfor a predetermined period of time based on an engine coolant temperature or thenumber of times the cranking operations have failed after the engine stops (stepsSthrough S). Thus, it is not necessary to initialize the engine valve at a time of the enginerestart during the engine stall or during an idle stop. The engine can quickly be restartedwith a power consumption saved.
