Last Weekend Was So Much Fun!
Last weekend was just the best! It started on Friday after school. My mom picked me up and we went straight to the grocery store. We loaded up our cart with all kinds of yummy snacks and ingredients for meals over the weekend. I got to pick out a special treat - a big chocolate chip cookie as big as my head! I was so excited.
When we got home, my dad was already there waiting for us. He had cleaned the whole house that morning while we were at school and work. It looked and smelled so fresh and clean. My mom put away the groceries while I went outside to play on the swingset in our backyard. The weather was beautiful - sunny and warm with a slight breeze. Perfect swinging weather!
A little while later, my mom called me in for dinner. We had tacos, which are my absolute favorite! I probably had about five or six. They were so good with all the toppings like cheese, lettuce, salsa and guacamole. After dinner, we all sat on the
couch together and watched a movie. I got to pick since it was Friday night, so I chose The Lion King. It's an older movie, but the songs are so catchy and fun.
I fell asleep before the movie ended. The next thing I knew, it was morning and sunlight was peeking through my bedroom curtains. I hopped out of bed, got dressed, and went to the kitchen for breakfast. My dad had made his famous chocolate chip pancakes! They're chocolate pancakes with chocolate chips cooked right into them. He topped them with whipped cream, strawberries and more chocolate chips. A total sugar overload but so worth it!
After breakfast, my mom and I worked in the garden together for a few hours. We pulled weeds, planted some new flowers, and gave everything a good watering. Gardening is hard work, but I like getting my hands dirty and watching the pretty plants grow. My dad worked on building a new bench for our backyard patio while we gardened. The sweet smell of the flowers and fresh-cut wood filled the air.
In the afternoon, our neighbors who have two boys around my age came over. We all played together in our backyard. We ran around chasing each other, played on the swingset, and kicked a soccer ball around. The boys and I had a contest to see
who could swing the highest and jump the farthest off the swings into the grass. Nobody got hurt, but we were all completely tuckered out by dinner time.
For dinner, my dad grilled hamburgers and hot dogs outside on the patio. We had corn on the cob, baked beans, and watermelon slices too. My dad's hamburgers are always perfectly cooked - juicy with a slight char from the grill. Mmm mm! After we ate, we all sat around the patio and visited with our neighbors for a while as the sun went down.
Once it got dark, my dad let us roast marshmallows over the firepit. He showed me and the neighbor boys how to get the marshmallows perfectly golden brown on the outside while staying soft and gooey on the inside. S'mores were definitely my favorite part of the whole day! I think I had about four or five of them.
Finally, it was time for our neighbors to head home. My parents and I went inside, got ready for bed, and I was out like a light as soon as my head hit the pillow. I don't think I even moved the whole night - I slept so hard after such a busy day! Sunday morning came around way too quickly. But the fun wasn't over yet! We had tickets to go to a minor league baseball game that afternoon. In the morning, we had a big breakfast of
waffles, sausage, eggs and hashbrowns. My parents let me watch cartoons while they cleaned up the kitchen.
At the baseball game, we had awesome seats right down the third base line. I could see everything up close! We loaded up on ballpark food - hotdogs, pretzels, popcorn, you name it. The game was really exciting. The two teams were tied for most of it until our team scored a run in the very last inning to pull ahead for the win! Everyone was cheering and high-fiving. Afterwards, we stuck around and the players signed autographs for kids. I got almost the whole team to sign my baseball. Such a cool souvenir!
By the time we got home that evening, I was dragging. What an action-packed couple of days! We had just enough time for me to play outside on the swingset one last time before bedtime. As I drifted off to sleep that night, my tummy was full from all the delicious food, my muscles were a little sore from all the running and playing, and my cheeks were tired from smiling and laughing so much. It was one of the funnest weekends ever! I made so many wonderful memories with my parents. I can't wait for next weekend! Who knows what adventures await?

What I Did Last Weekend
Last weekend was so much fun! It felt like it went by way too fast. I had been looking forward to it for weeks because my parents promised to take me and my little brother Danny on a special adventure.
It all started on Saturday morning. Mom woke us up at 7am, which isn't too early for me but Danny sure didn't like it! He came trudging into the kitchen rubbing his eyes and frowning. \"Why we gotta get up so early on a Saturday?\" he whined.
\"Because we're going on a trip! Didn't you remember?\" Mom replied cheerfully as she poured cereal into our bowls. \"So eat up and then go get dressed in something comfortable for being outdoors.\"
That got Danny and I excited. A trip? Where were we going? As we gulped down our breakfast, we kept pestering Mom and Dad with questions about the surprise destination. But they just smiled slyly and said, \"You'll see when we get there!\"
After we finished eating, we quickly got dressed and brushed our teeth. Mom had packed a cooler full of snacks and waters for the car ride. Finally, we were all loaded up in the family van and headed out on the road! Danny and I pressed our faces against
the windows, trying to guess where we might be going based on which direction we drove.
We must have been in the car for over an hour before Dad took an exit off the highway into a small town. That's when Mom told us we'd arrived and pointed out the window at a huge park full of tall trees and hiking trails! A nature reserve, she said it was called. I was really excited because I love the outdoors.
Danny...not so much. He started to complain about how boring walking through the woods would be.
But Mom promised there'd be fun stuff for both of us. The park had hiking trails but also lots of other cool activities. Danny immediately perked up when she said there were playgrounds, sports fields, and a swimming pond! Now he was into the idea. We parked the van and hauled our bag of supplies to the trailhead. Mom had packed a backpack for each of us with our own water bottles, trail mix, apples, and little notebooks for collecting nature observations. I was a full-on explorer!
The hiking trail looped all through the shady forest, across some creeks, and around a cool marshland area where we saw ducks and frogs. It was beautiful! Danny and I kept running ahead on the trail while Mom and Dad lagged behind, taking
their time. We'd find cool stuff like bird nests or deer prints and call them over to see.
At one point, I found a thick branch that seemed perfect for using as a walking stick, so I grabbed it up. Danny laughed at me for being such a dork but I didn't care. I was embracing my inner park ranger spirit!
After a couple miles of hiking, the trail opened up into a big grassy meadow area. That's where the playgrounds, pavilions, and other park attractions were. Danny made a beeline straight for the jungle gym while I convinced Mom and Dad to explore more of the nature trails around the marsh area first. We got up close and personal with the marsh habitat, tiptoeing along the boggy banks. Everywhere we looked there were neat plants, critters diving through the waters, and birds flitting about. I spotted a blue heron stoically wading through the shallows. So cool! I tried holding still and being quiet like the park rangers taught, allowing nature to just happen around me. It was such a peaceful place.
Eventually, Danny lost patience and came tugging on Mom's arm saying he wanted to go play now, so we headed into the main park area. While Danny burned energy on the jungle gym,
swings, and soccer field, Mom and I found a shady spot to rest and have our packed lunches of sandwiches and fruit.
After eating, I joined Danny on the playground for a little while, taking turns going down the big twisty slide and seeing who could swing higher on the swingsets. Before long though, I had worked up quite a sweat. That's when I spotted the swimming pond through the trees and got a brilliant idea. \"Mom, Mom! Can Danny and I go swimming in that lake?\" I pleaded. The pond was roped off into a swimming area and looked so refreshing.
\"I don't know...\" she said hesitantly. \"We didn't bring swimsuits.\"
\"We can just swim in our underwear!\" Danny piped up, already stripping down to his Spider-Man briefs. Leave it to my little brother to have no shame!
Mom looked unsure, but it was really hot and we'd been having so much fun exploring, she finally gave in. \"Oh all right, but just for a little while then we'll have to leave soon.\" Yay! I peeled off my sweaty shirt and shorts and did a cannonball right into the pond, Danny following after me with a huge splash. The water was perfect - not too cold, not too warm.
We spent the next hour splashing around joyfully while Mom and Dad watched from the shoreline, dipping their feet in. Eventually, they did have to wrangle us out before we turned into prunes, promising we could come back again another weekend with real swimsuits and towels. We reluctantly climbed out, dried off as best we could with our t-shirts, and got dressed again.
By that time, it was getting late in the afternoon. The morning's energy burst was wearing off, and we were starting to drag our feet, worn out from the full day of activity. As we loaded back into the van, dirt-streaked and damp-headed, Danny and I could barely keep our eyes open on the drive home.
I vaguely remember Dad saying something about wanting to come back soon to rent a boat and spend more time on the water. And Mom mentioned there were camping areas in another section of the park we should try out. But I was already half-asleep, my head rolled against the window, happily reminiscing about our awesome day of hiking, playing, and swimming in the great outdoors.
When we finally pulled back into our driveway as evening fell, Danny and I were out like lights. Dad had to carry us inside and
straight up to our beds. We slept like logs that night, exhausted but so content after our weekend adventure in the park. The next day was Sunday, and I figured we'd probably just have a lazy day at home recovering from all the fun we had on Saturday. Boy was I wrong! After a big breakfast, Mom
announced they had one more surprise activity planned for the day - but we'd have to wait to find out what it was.
Could last weekend get even better? I could hardly believe it! All I know is it ended up being just as great as the day before, filled with more memory-making adventures with my family. I absolutely cannot wait for next weekend!

What I Did Last Weekend
Last weekend was so much fun! It started on Friday after school. My mom picked me up and we went home. I was really hungry so I had a snack of apple slices and peanut butter. Then I did my homework for the weekend. I had to do some math worksheets and write a short story for my writing journal. I don't really like homework, but I know it's important to do it. After my homework was done, I got to play outside. The weather was beautiful - sunny and warm. I rode my bike around
the neighborhood with my friend Tommy from down the street. We raced each other and I won a few times! Tommy is a good sport though. We also played catch and did cartwheels on the grass. I love being active and playing outside.
When it started getting dark, my mom called me in for dinner. We had chicken, broccoli, and baked potatoes - one of my favorite meals. I helped set the table and pour drinks for everyone. After dinner, we had ice cream sundaes for dessert which was a special treat!
I took a bath and got ready for bed early because on Saturday morning, my family was going on a little trip. We woke up really early, around 6:00am. I was tired but also excited. We packed up the car with our suitcases, snacks, games, and my stuffed animal Teddy.
We drove for about 3 hours to get to the beach house we had rented for the weekend. It was right on the ocean and had the most amazing view! As soon as we arrived, I changed into my bathing suit and ran down to the beach. I love the beach so much - playing in the sand, swimming in the waves, and looking for seashells.
My dad showed me how to body surf on the little waves. At first I kept getting knocked over, but eventually I got the hang of
it. We also built a really cool sand castle complete with towers and tunnels. For lunch, we had peanut butter and jelly
sandwiches and chips on the beach. Such a simple lunch, but it tasted so good with the fresh ocean air.
In the afternoon, we went back to the beach house and I had some quiet time reading books and coloring. Once I was rested, my family and I went for a walk along the beach. We found so many neat shells, shark teeth fossils, and even saw a few crabs scurrying across the sand. The ocean breeze was warm but not too hot which made the walk really pleasant.
For dinner, we went to a seafood restaurant right on the water. I had baked cod with a side of fries. The fish was perfectly flaky and delicious. We watched the sunset over the water as we ate which was so pretty. Oranges, pinks, and purples filled the sky. On the drive back to the beach house, I fell sound asleep in the car.
On Sunday morning, we had a big breakfast of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and fruit. My dad cooked everything which was awesome. After we cleaned up from breakfast, we spent a few more hours on the beach before we had to pack up and head home. I played in the waves and looked for more seashells one
last time. I was sad to leave, but we took a ton of amazing memories and seashells home with us.
The drive home felt really long, but we stopped for lunch and I read books to help pass the time. Once we got home, I was exhausted! We unpacked, did some laundry, and I got ready for bed early. School was the next day, so I needed to rest up. Overall, I had the best weekend at the beach. I love the ocean, playing in the sand and waves, and spending quality time with my family. The beach house was gorgeous and we did so many fun activities. I feel so lucky we got to take that little trip! I'll never forget building that huge sandcastle or learning how to body surf. Those are memories I'll cherish forever. I sure do love weekends - especially ones like this beach weekend! I can't wait for our next family adventure.
