My Favorite Fairy Tale: Snow White
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there lived a beautiful princess named Snow White. She had skin as white as snow, lips as red as a rose, and hair as black as ebony. Snow White's story is my absolute favorite fairy tale of all time! Let me tell you why.
It all started when Snow White's mother, the Queen, tragically passed away after giving birth to her. The King remarried a very vain and wicked woman who became the new Queen. This new stepmother was obsessively jealous of Snow White's beauty as she grew into a lovely young princess. Every single day, the Evil Queen would ask her magical mirror \"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?\" And the mirror would always respond, \"You are the fairest one of all.\" This satisfied the Queen's vanity—until one day the mirror declared that Snow White was now the fairest in all the land! Enraged with jealousy, the Evil Queen ordered her huntsman to take Snow White deep into the forest and kill her. However, the kind huntsman couldn't bring himself to harm the sweet princess. Instead, he told Snow White to run away and never
return to the castle. Scared but grateful to be alive, Snow White fled into the dark, eerie woods all alone.
After wandering for hours, the frightened princess stumbled upon a tiny cottage deep in the forest. She went inside to find shelter, but to her surprise the cottage was very messy! There were seven tiny beds, seven tiny chairs around a table, and seven sets of dishes. Snow White was so exhausted that she fell asleep across some of the tiny beds.
When the owners of the cottage returned home, they found the uninvited guest sleeping under their roof. To Snow White's relief, the cottage belonged to seven friendly dwarfs who worked in a diamond mine all day. The dwarfs were initially surprised but took pity on her and agreed to let her stay if she did the housework for them. Snow White was delighted and named each dwarf—Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy and Dopey. For many days, Snow White cooked and cleaned for the dwarfs while they worked in the mine. The dwarfs grew very fond of her and repeatedly warned her to never open the door for any strangers when they were away. Unfortunately, Snow White forgot their advice one fateful day...
A wicked old woman (actually the Evil Queen in disguise) came knocking, trying to sell lace bodices. Naively, Snow White
allowed her inside. The \"old woman\" produced a laced bodice laced much too tight and started pulling with all her might, attempting to choke Snow White! Thankfully, the dwarfs returned home just in time and chased the \"old woman\" away, saving Snow White's life.
A few days later, the same \"old woman\" returned selling crisp, juicy apples. Again, Snow White's kind heart led her to open the door. Pretending to be feeble, the \"old woman\" asked Snow White to take a bite from the delicious apple first. Being polite, Snow White agreed—only to instantly fall into a deep, deathlike slumber after one bite of the poisoned apple! This time, no amount of coughing or prodding from the dwarfs could manage to revive poor Snow White. They feared she had met her doom. Heartbroken, the dwarfs placed Snow White in a glass coffin and took turns keeping watch over her. A prince happened to be riding through the forest and discovered the sorrowful sight. Upon gazing at Snow White's beauty even in death, the prince was so entranced that he insisted on taking the coffin back to his castle so she could forever rest there. Snow White must have been in such a deep slumber that even the jolting ride in the coffin failed to stir her. Back at the castle, the servants struggled mightily to carry the heavy load up
the steps. One of them stumbled and dropped the coffin so forcefully that the piece of poisoned apple finally dislodged from Snow White's throat! Immediately, she awakened from her cursed slumber as if from a dream.
The prince was overjoyed to find Snow White alive and well. Snow White soon told him the whole story about her Evil stepmother's jealous wrath. The prince vowed to protect Snow White and make her his bride. Together they set off for the Queen's castle to stop her villainy once and for all.
Upon their arrival, the Evil Queen was beside herself with anger that Snow White was still alive. In a blind rage, she grabbed a heavy boulder and tried to smash it onto Snow White from the cliffs above! But as she heaved the giant rock over her head, a freak bolt of lightning struck her at that very moment. The force actually caused the evil, jealous woman to topple over the cliff's edge herself.
At long last, Snow White was safe and free to marry her prince and live happily ever after in his castle. The kind dwarfs were invited to live with them as well, where they were always welcome guests. The kingdom rejoiced at the defeat of the Evil Queen and Snow White's triumph over adversity and treachery.
Snow White's tale is my favorite because she is such a kind, gentle and forgiving young lady. Though she suffered greatly at the hands of her stepmother's jealousy, Snow White never turned cruel or mean-spirited herself. She kept her beautiful spirit intact.
I also love how the dwarfs looked after Snow White and how she looked after them too, like a family. The prince was very brave to insist on keeping Snow White safe after finding her lifeless body. And in the end, good conquers evil as the villainous Queen gets her just deserts.
This classic fairy tale teaches that inner beauty, kindness and perseverance will win over vanity, jealousy and wickedness every time. Snow White's patience and sweet nature inspire me to be a better person. I never get tired of her enchanting story of love, friendship and doing the right thing. That's why it will always be my favorite fairy tale!
