Unit8 Topic1 What‟s the weather like in spring? Section D

Ⅰ. Teaching aims and demands 1.Aims of the knowledge:

(1)To learn some new words and some phrases. (2)To learn some useful expressions about seasons.

(3)To grasp the main idea of Reading and use the key words to describe the four seasons. 2.Aims of the abilities:

(1)To improve the ability of getting information by reading. (2)To improve the ability of describing something. 3.Aims of the emotion:

To enable the students to have a deeper understanding of our own cultures,and to train them to love our nation.

Ⅱ. Teaching important points

1. To talk about weather, temperature and four seasons. 2. Review present simple and past simple.

3.To get the ability of general reading and getting information. Ⅲ. Teaching difficult points

1.To master the usage of some important phrases, such as “come back to life, be busy doing sth.” 2. To sum up the rules of the word-formation.

3. To understand how to write about a simple weather report. Ⅳ. Teaching methods: CAI, Five-step Teaching Method

Ⅴ. Teaching aids: some pictures,a computer, a TV and the blackboard

VI. Teaching procedure

Step 1.Review

1. Duty report. Ask a student to make a simple weather report about today.

T: We can hear weather reports on TV every day. And who can make a weather report about Heng Yang in English?

2. Show some words about weather on the screen, and ask the students to summarize the rules of the word-formation. And then ask students to read it together.

3. Ask and answer. Show some pictures about the weather, and ask the students to make dialogs by using the following expressions. (Divide the whole class into two groups, and then let them to practice.)

T:What‟s the weather like today?/ How is the weather like today? S:It‟s sunny(cloudy, rainy…). Step 2.Presentation

1. Show four pictures on the screen, and then ask the students to use “What is/was the weather like today/yesterday?” and “What is/was the temperature?” to discuss in pairs. Then lead to show the form on the screen, and ask the students write a weather report according to the information in the form. And then ask three students to show their work to the class. The whole class discusses their writing. (First, give the students the example about Heng Yang on the screen.) Let the students know the new words “New York” and “Sydney”.

2. Free talk. Present a figure about months and seasons to the students, and ask them to discuss it.

3. Class activity. Let the students enjoy The seasons, at the same time, show four pictures of the seasons on the screen.

4. Let the students listen to 1a, and answer the following questions: (1.) What‟s the weather like in spring, summer, fall, winter? (2.) Does summer come after fall? (3.) What do the farmers do in fall? (4.) How long is winter in China?

(Ask four students from each group to answer the question, and then check them.)

At the same time, use the CAI to show pictures and present the new words and explain some important phrases “get warm”, “come back to life”, “harvest”, “be busy doing sth.”, “leaf”, “come after”, „last from…to…” and “strongly”. Step 3.Consolidation

1. Let the students read 1a together, then give the pictures about seasons without any colors, and ask each group to color the pictures with colorful chalks and pens. Then choose the best pictures and show them on the blackboard. (Praise the best groups, and encourage other groups.) 2. Then ask the students to find out the key words and finish 1b. Step 4.Practice

Ask four students to write the key words on blackboard (under the picture of each season) Spring: return in March, get warm, come back to life, a wonderful season Summer: begin in June, hot, rain, heavily

Fall: come after, harvest, be busy harvesting, the leaves Winter: last, cold, warm clothes, the wind, sometimes snow

Let students try to retell the passage according to the key words. (The purpose is to develop the skills of retelling with the key words) Step 5.Project and homework

1. Let the students discuss the following questions. Then report the results to the class. (1.) Which season do you like best, spring, summer, fall or winter? (2.) What clothes do you wear? (3.) What sports can you do?

Let the leader of each group to make a short report. The group which says the most and the best will be the winner.

2. Summarize the language points in this lesson. 3. Homework for this lesson are: (1.) Review Section D.

(2.) Finish the English project workbook in this part. (3.) Write a weather report according to P83,2 (4.) Preview Topic2
