摘要:A compression release mechanism (20) for use in a single or multi-cylinderengine to make the engine easier to hand start. The assembly (20) includes acompression release shaft (32) disposed substantially within the camshaft (22). Thecompression release shaft (32) is formed in at least two segments (34, 36) and cantherefore be formed accurately, repeatedly and cost effectively using powder metaltechnology. Consequently, the weight of the flyweight member (38) that is attached tothe compression release shaft (32) can be accurately controlled, thereby allowing thecompression release mechanism (20) to disengage at a precisely known rotationalvelocity of the camshaft (22). The compression release shaft (32) may engage one ormore valve actuation devices (28), which in turn force exhaust valves (80) open duringstarting engine speeds. The compression release mechanism (20) is convenientlycontained within the housing (64) by a housing wall (65) bearing against the flyweightmember (38) and a cam (24) bearing against an end of the compression release shaft (32).These bearing surfaces (65, 68) also hold the compression release shaft segments (34,36) together.
