Children need ways to show what they think and feel. This is why many children enjoy finger painting. Using their fingers, they can paint their own pictures and make designs(图案). People started finger painting long ago. Early humans used their hands to paint animals on the walls of caves(洞穴). Hundreds of years ago, Chinese artists used ink to draw with their fingers .
Modern finger painting was started by an American school teacher named Ruth Shaw. A child in her class hurt a finger. The teacher told the student to put some iodine on the cut. Later she found the child using the iodine and all the fingers to draw designs. From this, she got the idea of letting children rub paint on paper with their fingers.
To finger paint, children use a special paint and paper. The paint must be the kind that does not hurt the hands and can wash off easily. The paper has a shiny coating on one side that holds the paint.
The young artists wet the paper before they begin their work. They paint standing up so that they will have more room to move their arms. They can paint with their fingers or with their arms or hands. As they rub the paint over the paper, they turn a sea of color into a bright design. ( ) 31. Which of the following words means \"a medicine that is put on cuts\"? A. Coating. B. Paint. C. Design. D. Iodine. ( ) 32. Finger paints must ________.
A. be made from iodine B. be hard to wash off C. not be bad for health D. be shiny on one side ( ) 33. Which of the following sentences is true?
A. Finger painting is not a new idea.
B. Finger painting is only good for making designs.
C. Only children with hurt fingers can enjoy finger painting. D. You must be Chinese to use finger paints. ( ) 34. This story is mainly about_______.
A. American school teachers who teach drawing B. a special way to paint
C. Chinese artists who painted on walls
D. early paintings on the walls of caves

The Americans believe that anybody can become President of the United States. In a recent Hollywood comedy, that is exactly what happens.
Dave Kovic, played by Kevin Kline, is a kind-hearted man who runs a business that finds people jobs. He leads a typical American way of life, except for one thing-he looks exactly like the President, Bill Mitchell. In fact, the only thing that makes him different from the nation's leader is that he is very nice!
The president has started using look-alikes during some public appearances. Dave is offered a chance to \"serve his country\" by becoming one. However, things go wrong. The President
becomes very ill and Dave ends up acting as the President forever.
Director Ivan Reitman, who made the popular and successful comedies like Twins, Ghostbusters and Legal Eagles, could have gone for easy laughs by making fun of the American government.
Instead, Dave is an attractive comedy about an ordinary man in extraordinary situations. Kevin Kline gives a double performance as Dave and the President, and Sigourney Weaver is at her best as his First Lady. The love story that develops between her role and Dave is a real classic.
The film is 100% American. However, if you've ever felt that anybody could do a better job running the country than the people in power, then you'll enjoy Dave!

Parents and kids today dress alike, listen to the same music, and are friends. Is this a good thing? Sometimes, when Mr. Ballmer and his 16-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, listen to rock music together and talk about interests they both enjoy, such as pop culture, he remembers his more distant relationship with his parents when he was a teenager.
“I would never have said to my mom, ‘Hey, the new Weezer album is really great. How do you like it?’” says Ballmer. “There was just a complete gap in taste.”
Music was not the only gulf. From clothing and hairstyles to activities and expectations, earlier generations of parents and children often appeared to move in separate orbits.
Today, the generation gap has not disappeared, but it is getting narrow in many families. Conversations on subjects such as sex and drugs would not have taken place a generation ago. Now they are comfortable and common. And parent-child activities, from shopping to sports, involve a feeling of trust and friendship that can continue into adulthood.
No wonder greeting cards today carry the message, “To my mother, my best friend.” But family experts warn that the new equality can also result in less respect for parents. “There’s still a lot of strictness and authority on the part of parents out there, but there is a change happening,” says Kerrie, a psychology professor at Lebanon Valley College. “In the middle of that change, there is a lot of confusion among parents.”
Family researchers offer a variety of reasons for these evolving roles and attitudes. They see the 1960s as a turning point. Great cultural changes led to more open communication and a more democratic process that encourages everyone to have a say.
“My parents were on the ‘before’ side of that change, but today’s parents, the 40-year-olds, were on the ‘after’ side,” explains Mr. Ballmer. “It’s not something easily accomplished by parents these days, because life is more difficult to understand or deal with, but sharing interests does make it more fun to be a parent now.”
(南充高中自主招生试题) ( ) 39. Which of the following shows that the generation gap is disappearing?
A. Parents help their children develop interests in more activities. B. Parents put more trust in their children’s abilities. C. Parents and children talk more about sex and drugs. D. Parents share more interests with their children.
( ) 40. The change in today’s parent-child relationship is _________.
A. more confusion among parents
B. new equality between parents and children C. less respect for parents from children
D. more strictness and authority on the part of parents
( ) 41. By saying “today’s parents, the 40-year-olds, were on the ‘after’ side.” the author means
that today’s parents _________.
A. follow the trend of the change B. can set a limit to the change
C. fail to take the change seriously D. have little difficulty adjusting to the change
( ) 42. The purpose of the passage is to _________.
A. describe the difficulties today’s parents have met with B. suggest the ways to handle the parent-child relationship C. discuss the development of the parent-child relationship D. compare today’s parent-child relationship with that in the past 四、书面表达。(本题1小题,满分15分)
